About Groking

I was first introduced to the word grok many years ago while reading the sci-fi book “Stranger in a Strange Land” by Robert Heinlein. In his book it was a Martian word that meant “to drink, to live to have a profound understanding of, to become one with.”Grok

Grok is very similar in meaning to the word “grock,” which, according to the Urban Dictionary (a questionably reputable literary resource), is defined as “understand, appreciate actively and profoundly, fully comprehend; also, to think about, listen to, play, or contemplate something or someone with full love and understanding, even ecstasy. Often done stoned.”

No matter which word/definition you prefer, this blog is all about feeling the music and writing about it. This site is emotionally driven.  You won’t find expert opinion about playing a song in C minor or B flat.  No tech talk about arrangements or modulation. Just plain ol’ musical enjoyment talk about what I see, hear and feel when I listen to music.

I think everyone should take some time to feel the rhythm every once in a while.

Grok On!

BTW: The true spelling is grokking and not groking, but Grokking Music was already taken.

Enjoy!
